Job Summary:
The Adoption Counselor plays a crucial role in facilitating the adoption process by providing counseling, support, and guidance to birth parents, adoptive parents, and adoptees. As an Adoption Counselor, you will be responsible for conducting assessments, coordinating meetings, conducting home visits, and ensuring the overall well-being and satisfaction of all parties involved in the adoption process.

Responsibilities:
1. Conduct comprehensive assessments of birth parents, adoptive parents, and adoptees to determine their suitability for adoption.
2. Provide counseling and support to birth parents, adoptive parents, and adoptees throughout the adoption process, addressing their emotional, psychological, and practical needs.
3. Collaborate with other professionals, such as social workers, psychologists, and legal representatives, to ensure a smooth and ethical adoption process.
4. Conduct home visits to assess the living conditions and suitability of prospective adoptive parents.
5. Assist birth parents in exploring options, understanding legal procedures, and making informed decisions regarding adoption.
6. Facilitate meetings between birth parents and prospective adoptive parents to establish mutual understanding and facilitate the adoption process.
7. Provide information and resources to birth parents, adoptive parents, and adoptees regarding adoption laws, regulations, and post-adoption services.
8. Maintain accurate and confidential records of all adoption-related interactions, assessments, and progress.

Qualifications and Skills:
1. Bachelor's degree in Social Work or related field. Master's degree in Social Work is preferred.
2. Minimum of 3 years of experience in adoption counseling or a related area.
3. Knowledge of adoption laws, regulations, and best practices.
4. Ability to conduct comprehensive assessments and provide counseling to individuals and families in crisis.
5. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to establish rapport and build relationships with diverse individuals and groups.
6. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple cases, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records.
7. Empathy, sensitivity, and cultural competence in dealing with birth parents, adoptive parents, and adoptees from various backgrounds.
